Game Summary - Game 74: Sens Didn't Lose To A Non-Playoff Team This Time

By Boring Chris Brochenski

1st Period

17:30 - Erik Condra goes to dump the puck in and his blade snaps off his stick. I was hoping for a while that he had been using this defective stick his entire career but next shift he was back out there making his regular crappy shots, so apparently not.

9:18 - Hemsky gets a good chance in front, but is stopped by Ramo. Hemsky recovers the rebound, passes to Karlsson at the point whose shot is tipped in by Michalek. 1-0 Ottawa

6:37 - First Line Center Matt Stajan beats Lehner. Assists awarded to First Line Winger Jiri Hudler and First Line Winger Curtis Glencross. Tied at 1-1
0:22 - Spezza drags the puck around a sliding T.J. Brodie, then glides to the area in front of the net and makes a perfect backhand pass to Michalek, who beats Ramo. 2-1 Ottawa

2nd Period

16:01 - 2-2 Canadian Team With No Chance At The Playoffs. Denis Potvin notes that "watching in their own zone" has been an issue for the team all season. Probably worth mentioning it's been an issue for fans too.

14:26 - MacArthur just misses a breakaway, and Ramo leaps out of his crease and poke checks it away. The puck immediately goes the other way and Lehner robs Camalleri with a glove save off a one-timer. Sens defense has been absolutely atrocious today.

12:55 - Sean Monahan walks in front the corner and beats Lehner over the shoulder short-side. 3-2 Calgary. In a way I'm almost glad Ottawa didn't draft him or else the Sens Marketing campaign would have probably started an Official Hashtag of #RoaringSeanMonahan. [Note: That last joke is not endorsed by nor does it represent the views/opinions of the RBM staff.]

7:34 - Westgarth and Kassian fight. Matt Kassian takes an instigator penalty on the play. Regardless of how many times he punched a guy, the Flames play 5 minutes a night that isn't giving the Sens any sort of benefit beyond keeping Kassian off the ice. Although Calgary fans will probably be quick to tell you it gives a boost to their Grit Chart.

5:13 - Ottawa ices the puck. I have a feeling this icing will generate some momentum for the Sens.

3:13 - Following that powerful momentum-generating icing call (it happened right before this so it must be true) MacArthur, Stone and Turris come in on a 3-on-2, and MacArthur feeds Turris, who blows a wrist-shot past Ramo. Tied at 3-3.

3rd Period

18:48 - Jared Cowen walks in front of the blueline and fires a wristshot with his head down from the ringette line. The puck hits a few sticks in front, and ends up bouncing off Ramo and goes top corner. 4-3 Ottawa.

"I am shocked that a goalie who gives up two goals in a game to Michalek would also get scored on by Jared Cowen." - absolutely nobody

11:16 - Chris Neil takes a penalty for tripping. On the penalty kill, Flames defenseman T.J. Brodie gets a chance in the slot, but a sprawling Erik Condra gets down in the butterfly position and blocks the shot, deflecting it high and wide. Seems like anytime a puck touches this guy it's going to miss the net by a mile. Hey-Ooooooo!!!!

7:38 - Turris enters the zone with MacArthur and slips a saucer pass past Giordano to MacArthur as he heads for the net. MacArthur tips it top corner. 5-3 Ottawa.

1:21 - Kyle Turris gets the empty netter, scoring his 25th of the season. Heck...with Karri Ramo in nets all game I bet he barely even noticed!!!!! 6-3 Ottawa

Summary of The Game Summary

Calgary is bad and Sens are less bad.
