CESKE BUDEJOVICE, CZECH REPUBLIC: Former Ottawa Senators defenceman Stan "The Man" Neckar admitted that he's just about done waiting for his former club to call him about the vacancies in their hockey operations department.

"I'm getting a little tired of sitting by the phone," sighed the 2004 Stanley Cup champion defender as he stirred a lump of sugar into his tea. "I guess I just thought the call would've come by now."

Neckar broke into the league with the Ottawa Senators in 1994-95 after being taken by the club in the second round. He spent five seasons in Ottawa before moving around the league for five more seasons and eventually settling in Europe to end his career.

He said this journeyman experience makes him a good fit for an advisory role with his first professional team.

"Everyone knows they've been looking for some veteran minds in hockey ops," Neckar said, a hint of resignation in his voice.

"Frankly, I'm surprised they haven't reached out. Who else could they possibly be calling?"
